Losing weight, one diet at a time; one month at a time…

Asexual Nude - AKA Jeff

This is a pastel drawing done in the mid-late ’80’s. I did a series of these drawings based on a good friend of mine from Tyler School of Art. He died in 1990 of AIDS. The best of the drawings is in Atlanta, Georgia with my ex-sister in law.

Asexual Nued Pastels had been a favorite medium of mine back then. But, since I stopped using them, decades ago, I haven’t been able to replicate the style.

The asexual nude series was a transition from the dark, faceless drawings I did in the very early days, until I took off with the female nudes and transitioned into the fat ladies.

  1. This drawing keeps one thinking and guessing as to the person’s gender. It is, to me, a mystery. A big question mark etched in pastel. The title says it all though: He is neither male nor female but has no gender at all.

I think that this clearly is a transitory period in your work. A point of finding an identity. ( I might be wrong though):)

Your mention of the evolution of your drawings tell me that indeed, there was change happening. I am just glad you found your heart (yourself?) in the fat ladies.

    They are beautiful.

  6. I love working pastels, they are very forgiving and supply a different feel to a piece that painting or charcoal and provide.

This is a nice piece I like how the diagonal lines on the subject give it a feel that you are looking at something animated
