This is a post written by a preteen who I’ll call Kathleen.

There are many pre-teens who would like to lose weight by dieting, but they only want to do that to become thinner and weigh less. But, what they should be doing is trying to eat healthy to become more healthy instead of trying to lose weight.

It is more important to be healthy than to lose weight because losing too much weight can be unhealthy and it can lead to death. If you are heallthy and eating the amount of right food to stay healthy, your body will be in better condition.

So, instead of not eating as much or going on an unhealthy diet, you should do some exercises or cut down a little.

Some exercises you could do would be to ride your bike, go swimming, go running, or other active things. You should at least get one hour of exercise each day.
Another way to become more healthy would be to cut down a little. Instead of eating until you’re full, eat until you’re not hungry. Also, don’t have as much junk food each day. Have it every once in a while, but not constantly.

So, these are reasons why and how to eat healthy.

Motivated to Lose Weight (again)

John from Total Transformation Test, who encourages me to eat more fruits and veggies, left me a wonderful comment yesterday about making a diet plan that will reduce the chance of making bad choices. I thought if this is possible – then I’ve got to give it a go. I read his post – Complete Blockhead’s Guide to Eating, or, The Simplest Diet EVER! – and it’s so simple and is right in line with how I’d prefer to eat. Too many choices and too little planning always gets me in trouble with food. So, yea! to John and here’s what I’ve got lined up for this week’s choices:

Breakfast choices – Bran Chex, Khashi, or low-fat yogurt
Lunch choices – any JC lunches that remain (I’m finally getting near the end of the Jenny food!), tuna salad with low-fat mayo on 2 rice cakes, or natural peanut butter and sugar free jelly on 100% whole wheat bread
Dinner choices – meatball rice cake pizzas (my own creation) & salad w/low fat dressing, grilled chicken breast with veggies & potatoes
Snack choices – unlimited fruits & veggies, mozzarella cheese, JC snacks (all are between 100 – 130 calories)

That should get me through this week.

Daily Commitment to Lose Weight

It is a daily battle to try and make good food choices and eat what I know is best for me. The benefit to making good choices is weight loss. I wrote on The Incredible Shrinking Ladies about my new commitment to make a lifestyle change. It’s one thing to have abundant knowledge about diet and nutrition – it’s another to put it in to action. So, here I go again. If I have to commit hourly to living a healthful life – I will do so.

I added exercise back into my daily routine this morning. Last week we were up on a “working vacation” in Maine, so we didn’t get to exercise. We had been going to the YMCA every morning for just 20 minutes. I know that isn’t much time – but being committed to doing it every day – that short time has made it doable. We plan to increase the time soon. For me – just getting to the gym is the biggest hurdle to overcome.

Breakfast – 1 cup Bran Chex – 200
1oz String Cheese – 80
Lunch – JC Potstickers & Salad – 300
Snack – apple!! – 80
Dinner – Meatloaf, potatoes & assorted veggies – 360
Snack – Chocolate Chip Snack Bar – 110

Trying on Clothes is a Humbling Experience

I’m down about 8 pounds – still, since I started the most recent weight loss endeavor. I went shopping at the outlets in Freeport, Maine (home of my favorite LL Bean) and had to try on clothes because I knew that I was not going to be back to return items that did not properly fit. What a humbling experience. I’m up 2-3 sizes since I lost all the weight 4 years ago. This is not a good feeling – BUT it did strengthen my commitment to take off the 20 – 30 pounds that I gained over the years.

Breakfast – 1 cup Kashi – 200 calories
Business lunch mtg – maybe had 100 calories of salad
Came home and had cheese stick and yogurt – 180 calories
Chick-fil-A Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad – 240 calories
Spicy Dressing & Tortilla Chips for the salad – 210 calories
Rita’s Italian Ice – 160 calories

Total calories – 1090

We met our goal of making it to the gym (YMCA) five days this week for 20 minutes a day.

I got on the scale this morning and I’m down 5 pounds since Monday. This seems typical – loss of water and all. On day two I ate:

Breakfast – JC cereal – 200 calories
Cheddar Cheese – 100 calories
Lunch – JC Cheesy Enchiladas – 260 calories
Dinner – Grilled Chicken Breast – 130 calories
Grilled potatoes, onions & corn – 150 calories

Total calories for day 2 – 840 (not nearly enough)

Kate and I got together last night (the reason I actually cooked) and discussed our plan of attack. We thought we both would benefit from making weekly or at least daily menus ahead of time. I know that the less I have to think about food – the better off I am. So, that’s on my to-do list for today. We also agreed and Kate is far more optimistic that I – that there is hope for living a life without the obsession with food – whether it be from eating or dieting.

I was looking back over past post at fatladysingz.com ’cause I thought I wrote a post about the ups and downs of my weight since I started this project. But, I can’t seem to find any. Those thoughts must not have ever left my head. But, here it goes… When I returned from my honeymoon – I stepped on the scale to find out that I was at the same weight that I started at. Now, I know there has definitely been weight loss over the past seven months, which means there has also been weight gain.Since the honeymoon – I recommitted myself to, well exercise and get back to dieting or at least making healthy food choices. Which I did for a time (the food choices, that is). But, we went away again, as did the healthy food – and now I’m afraid to get on the scale. I’m certain that I may have risen above the start weight and I’m scared to death to find out. What brought all of this to my attention again was, while reading the weekly weigh-in at The Incredible Shrinking Ladies – I noticed that Lady Rose was up one pound – not too bad. Then I made my way over to the summary of her weight loss – and it was very impressive!
Why can’t I stick with any diet?
