Losing weight, one diet at a time; one month at a time…
Personal Goals for 2010
First and foremost, my goal is to get back to blogging. I fell off the face of the earth for most of 2009. The reasons for this are many. Business was crazy, busy, but the recession hit us too. I was still settling in to the new home and grieving the loss of my father. But I’m going to concentrate on blogging and moderating the 1300 comments in the queue. Ugh!
I did have an epiphany in 2009 – I do not have the determination to complete ANYTHING that is not related to my business. If I have a task that I am getting paid to do – I WILL get it done, but personal goal – forget about it. Now I believe this is a direct corellation to my inability to lose the weight I struggle to lose year after year.
2010 Goals -
- Continue blogging
- Start and stick with a new healthful eating plan – whether it’s weight watchers, Jenny Craig – whatever – JUST DO IT!
- Paint! – I had a goal last year to paint a painting-a-day for 365 days. I finished 13 paintings! See. I don’t finish anything that’s for me.
- Read the Bible from Genesis through Revelations (Adam is helping me with this one)
That’s it. I don’t want to overwhelm myself with too much to do that I don’t accomplish anything.
So, how am I going to do this? Well, I started blogging again – see, you’re reading my first post of 2010. Not much, but it’s a start. Next, I’m going to go to the Saturday weight watchers meeting at the Senior Center in one town over. Painting is probably the most difficult of the tasks, because it requires that I prepare a place in my house again where I can paint. I think my laziness has a huge impact on this (especially when I could be playing spider solitaire instead of painting). Last, and probably the easiest goal to acheive will be the Bible reading because, Adam is reading to me after we settle in to bed for the night.

Well, I guess everyone of us is a bit lazy, more or less. If you are really determined to accomplish the goals, work out some check-up or follow-up methods, that may help.

It’s time for goal setting at this time of the year again. Actually I’ve doing that year in year out but somehow, I did follow through. Perhaps, I’ve started off making too many goals and got lost on the way! So think I’ll just get started with one or 2 and hopefully I can stick to them long enough to see some results.

Well stated. I empathized with everything you said in this post — being overwhelmed in 2009, unable to complete anything for me — it was like I wrote it. My 2010 goals are similar to yours BUT I will add that I suffer from some kind of personal esteem issue that is solely based on my weight. Yet losing the weight (and me in general) is always a goal at the end of the line after satisfying everyone else’s need for the day. It’s a Catch 22 scenario. I plan to try and fix that this year.
By the way — LOVE the painting!

Hey Barbara – thanks for the words of encouragement!
I am well aware of the self esteem issues that go along with being overweight. I’ve struggled with that for as long as I can remember too.
Hang in there – we CAN do it in 2010

I admire you for saying that you will paint at least once a day. Surely that will take up a lot of your time?
I however am the same, as I say that I will write one article a day about my business industry but I always end up going off looking for blogs or forums to read.
I have decided not to make any new years resolutions but good luck with yours. Hope you see them through.

Ann, I think making too many goals has been a mistake that I’ve made over the years too. Having a short list makes it easier to attain.
Thanks for the comment –

JUST DO IT, I think I need to use this moto for 2010. Like forming bad habits, I need to form good habits. The only way to follow good habits, is to just do it.

It’s really good to have personal goals! One great way to achieve painless weight loss is to start an organic diet. Try it out…it really works! it helps to remove toxins and clogged stools in our bodies. A great way to start 2010 is to eat healthy, eat organic and do moderate exercise everyday…who says weight loss programs need to be painful. Cheers!

the whole year’s work depend on a good star in the spring. i am a person who like to make a early decision for my foreseeble time or long time life or career. generely speaking, my goals seems untouch and how weak i looklike, but, i never give up, as bear dreams in mind, my life is excellence and colourful.

Reading the bible from beginning to end in one year is quite a challenge… how are you doing with that so far. Are you at least a 12th of the way through yet.
Good luck to you.

Its nice to keep it simple for once. I bet in year’s past you had so many lofty goals that it just ate you up inside to quickly because you couldn’t keep them all. I see the bloggings coming along great though. Congrats!

I also struggle with New Years Resolutions ( I think we all do!) Its nearly May now and I haven’t kept to any of them. I am thinking about restarting though, getting some dive back in my life. I think it helps when the days are longer and I am not coming home from work in the dark and bitter rain! If I can stick to my exercise regime now and get into a rhythm, hopefully come winter this year I wont want to stop! Anyway, enough of me, this is your blog
Interesting read and hope that all is still going well 5 months on!
