I’m both a bit overweight and I would say I have an addictive personality. This came to mind as I find myself playing the game Spider Solitaire incessantly. My son introduced me to the game recently and I have not stopped playing the game since. It has even caused me to stop doing my work and I had considered myself a workaholic. All of this got me to thinking - do most overweight people have addictive personalities?
It makes sense to me as I think more about this. I believe that food is a type of addiction as are many other things, so perhaps many overweight people also have an addictive personality. If this is true, then could it be treated in the same fasion as any other compulsive disorder?
I’d reflect more on this, but I have a game of Spider Solitaire calling my name.

I think an addictive personality might have some bearing on being overweight - at least for some people. I certainly don’t think that every single overweight person is dealing with an addiction, though.
There are lots of other reasons (as I’m sure you are aware) a person can be overweight - our “modern conveniences” have made it all but unnecessary to engage in physical activity, and our busy lifestyles have made us rely on processed (read: unhealthy) foods to get meals on the table quickly.
You’ve noted a bit of addictive behavior in yourself, though, so it would be worth watching. Note your eating triggers - do you eat just when you’re hungry, or also when you’re bored, tired, depressed, lonely, etc.? We usually use addictive behaviors to mask unpleasant feelings (even though the behaviors cause plenty of unpleasant feelings themselves!)
Does this help at all?
Well Lizzie I don’t think it that way.
It varies from person to person. All not everybody becomes fat just for eating.
Many hormonal probs may also make you fat.
I agree. Some people don’t eat but yet get big. Some hormonal problems.
It is for some people. The two factors do not always go hand in hand.
I tend to agree also. It is not always the fact that you overeat, but hormones can be a big factor. Heck, there are numerous reasons why one gains weight, with or without eating.
I agree with you, I think there’s some people get big , and he have an Addictive Personality. I have friend for this case.
I totally agree! Good article! I am overweight too…
I think weight most probably can be treated in some cases as a compulsive disorder. I have also had some interesting discussions about weight loss with people in the ‘NLP world’ around effective use of goal setting (ensure that there is a goal beyond the target weight i.e. once I get to Xkgs I will be able to Y).
it’s good blog.i agree.some hormonal problems.it’s for some people.
In something I agree with you. But all people are different
Most of fat people i know have Addictive Personality. They seems to be very keen on foods.
I don’t think being overweight is linked to an addictive personality. However, an addictive personality may lead to being overweight - that would be an interesting study.
I think everybody must take care of their body form.
Recently I registered to http://buildsixpacknow.com after being pessimistic about it. In just a few months, I was very happy to see that it is real and helps us in losing weight. I am very happy with the result.
LOL - well I definitely have an ‘addictive personality’ and I am overweight - but I don’t think they are linked directly.
I don’t exercise enough and I eat too much - but this is down to my addiction to work and my computer.
Rog.
i dont think so.. i wanna leave a comment but dont know where to start.. but this is a nice discussion.. hihi.. by the way, very informative writing. I myself is into blogging and im trying to optimize for the keyword Cebu Local Hair Care. Thanks
yeah but it can go both ways because I have known people who have struggled with eating disorders for years, which is also an addiction.
sometimes………
and sometimes not……….
depends how fat you are
Fat doesn’t mean addictive..
Just enjoy the game, and sometimes do exercise
Hey Everyone, Nice to see you all… even I’m a member of www, buildsixpacknow, com
It’s working really nicely and I am very happy that I found it. I am rid of all my fat in 112 days.. Let me know when we can chat about it. Also, please discuss other great ways of losing weight like www, buildsixpacknow, com
i am agree with ugg boots for less
It could be the genes. From my maternal side, my relatives are predominantly tall and thin; while from the paternal side, my aunts are mostly short and obese. The genes I got are tall and obese
I tend to get overweight even when I’m on a strict diet–which is definitely frustrating.
I definitely feel over eating is an addictive process for many. Not just an addictive process itself, but just one manifestation of an addictive personality. There are diet tests going on at this moment concerning anti-depressants and weight loss and one study which I am familiar with shows a sharp correlation between antidepressants which also help lower addictive behavior have a very positive effect on the individual allowing them to resist the temptation to eat.

Nice discussion this is helpful for who want to lose the weight.
Good article its very effective for those people who are suffering with weight problem.
I agree that stress can be a really negative influence on weight, but all people diff rant.
good article its really helpful for heavy weight people.
This is a great blog for anyone trying to lose weight, to control or prevent diabetes.
this is good suggestion for overweight people.
This is one of the most popular weight loss tips on this list. I’ve seen this one everywhere. Thanks for post.
i also addictive personality. i don’t eat more for my addiction to my work. i also struggled with eating disorder.this also is addiction.
In spite of the variety of activities that can be considered addictive, people who engage in them tend to have certain attitudes and types of behavior in common.
Your metabolism is much like a thermostat in your home and it works to maintain your current body weight, Thanks.
I think there are usually other factors connected to being overweight. A part of the reason is probably caused by genes. Psychological factors are there also but I think that addictive personality is not one of the biggest. I think both addictive personality and overweight status might be only a consequence of a third factor.
I don’t think being overweight can directly be attributed to having an addictive personality. Its the over-eating that an addictive personality type can exhibit that is a contributing factor in my opinion. I know that I just can’t enjoy a tv show or movie unless Im eating something throughout.
Brought up a lot of good points. Try and remember to control how much goes in and how active you are….
I have also had some interesting discussions about weight loss.
I think its not. Eating too much might be cause be other certain factors. Its more on a personal problem. I think it would be better if we exercise if we are frustrated. But depends really on the person.
I totally agree on what you have said. I am also an Overweight and some times I cant stop my self doing my favorite stuffs. its just like I am going to be sick If I haven’t eat my favorite Pizza flavor and so on. I wish there is a cure on this because I really need to stop my addictive personality.
I wish more people would realize that food can very addictive. I see it the time with my own family. You have to have a ton of self discipline to not over eating. People put weight issues right at the top of there stress list over a life time.
It really depends… the most overweight person I know has a very addictive personality. More notably, all he does is play World of Warcraft. The next most overweight is addicted to watching sports (how ironic). However, I know some very healthy addicts too, who are addicted to things like working out and playing sports.
I would actually say most people are overweight from lack of passion.
I also support the view that overweight people have an addictive personality. There are many reasons physical and habitual both.
Thats an interesting way to look at it lol
this is very well designed blog that useful for everyone. We keep to follow it.
I think being overweight can be attributed to having an addictive personality (but there are also many other things too). I think knowing you have an addictive personality is half the battle and once you realise this you can stop yourself when you go to the fridge for that extra slice of pie. Addictions are rarely a good thing and realising what sets off your addiction will help you overcome wanting to eat. I am currently trying to lose weight with diet pills. I think diet pills that work can help you lose weight and divert your obession/addictive personality onto something else.
It makes sense to me as I think more about this. I believe that food is a type of addiction as are many other things
Nice Topic ,
I think So
There should many reason to tell if you are additive or not. but being over weight because of eating and whatever I think it is not an addictive personality because if you were an addict you will try to risk it all just to get what you want and it would be really hard to stop it without a help of professional. Maybe you only need to tell your self why I am eating so much and is this really makes me good?
I love your website design and your posts, keep up the good work.
it’s interesting blog.It really depends… the most overweight person.I know some very healthy addicts too.
That could very well be true that overweight people have addictive personalities. My friend is overweight and plays videos games NONSTOP. Who knows if there is a correlation though. Have any studies been done?
Speaking of addiction
I’m addicted to Entermann’s Chocolate Chip Cookies
Anybody else like these?
Jack
I’m curious as to what has caused me to develop an addictive personality. I’m not addicted to drugs or smoking…eating, nothing like that.
overweight saved my business. I didn’t even need training. I can’t tell you how happy I am with overweight.
If you have a list of favorite addictive foods, that could be related to the addictive personality of being an overweighted individual. It may result to a possible body imbalance or could lead to obesity. We should limit our intake of fatty foods or it will be a great risk.
Being fat or thin is not a factor why your doing things like gaming. It’s okay to be childlike but being childish is too bad, you can play the things that you’re son are playing but you as a mother should not be addicted to that game.
I also think that having an “addictive personality” can lead to overeating and being overweight, but I think the main cause of most people being overweight is not exercising enough. As we get older, our metabolism naturally begins to slow down, because we tend to lose muscle mass which aids in fat burn. When I was a teenager, I was skinny as a rail; yet as I got older, while maintaining the same eating patterns, I became heavier. The idea is that as we get older, we have to work harder in exercising and building muscle; it’s like a never-ending job (it gives me a headache as I think about it) .. ugh..
this is very well designed blog that useful for everyone. We keep to follow it.
I’m sure there are a lot of overweight people that have an addictive personality, but at the same time there are a lot who don’t. Weight gain is usually a response to not exercising and overeating, simple.
I agree. Some people don’t eat but yet get big. Some hormonal problems.
I think food addiction is very similar to other addiction such as alcohol addition etc. It’s a compulsion.
Food can be an addiction and can be a substitute for other addictions if you have an addictive personality - however there are also a number of other reasons why you might be over weight which might have nothing to do with food but are health reasons. Good to see someone being honest - good work!
I think you are telling the right thing. Most of the overweight people have an addictive personality. This very well written blog will definitely help people who are concerning about weight loss.
I definitely think there is a correlation. I have been overweight my whole life, and also have a very addictive personality. However, i attribute a lot of it to genetics: my father’s side of the family is very obese, and my Mom has been addicted to almost everything possible…
I’m not sure an addictive personality can be associated to overweight. Addiction isn’t really a personality trait it is a dependency.
Addictive behavior is actually a psychosis. Very much related to obsessive compulsive. And the answer is yes AB is prone to weight issues.
I think it is not an addictive personality because if you were an addict you will try to risk it all just to get what you want and it would be really hard to stop it without a help of professional. Maybe you only need to tell your self why I am eating so much and is this really makes me good?
i think it fit to my son ,i will test the food , believe that food is a type of addiction as are many other things, good post
I don’t think necessarily an addictive personality, but definitley some mental disorder. I don’t mean like the person is psycho or something. I just think maybe depression or just certain enviornments can effect ones personality.
Then of course, there is always the different metabolisms. Some people have slower metabolisms and some are off the charts.
for me addictive personality is affect our weight…
I could see the two being link, I know many people see over eating as an additcion, it makes sense they would be related.
This is a great post, I totally agree with your statement that food can too be addictive and self control is very important in every addiction
I lIke this blog, keep blogging bro. Thanks for this information
Having an addictive personality might have something to do with being overweight but I don’t think it’s the whole reason. Genes def have a big part to play. I think your genes decide what body shape you have and your body will always try to maintain that shape, no matter how little or how much you eat.
Hi there… Just dropped by. Like your sriting style, very nice
Could you please write more about this anytime soon.. Added to my google reader… thanks!
i don’t think it is for most overweight people.. my mother isn’t like that, i mean she do have some cravings sometimes but not necessarily she wants to have or do the same things always.
I don’t think it that way.. its all about life choice not addictive case… but I believe too that healthy does not mean..skinny…
@Dara, true, I have the same case, my fathers side are all overweight and my Doctor told me that I should not get depression because there’s a basis why I am overweight, but, I told her that it doesn’t mean that I’ll stop my diet.
Yes its true that some people go overweight due to hormonal problems.I have seen many people who don’t eat too much or consume heavy fatty meals but still they are obese. On the other hand there are many people who eat more than normal but are always lean and slim.
Anyway, This is my first visit to your blog and after reading your post I can’t leave without commenting.
I’m going to add your blog in my Google reader as I will be keep visiting your blog.
Thanks
Weight loss has always been a mind game, every aspect of it depends the person ability to control themselves. Let it be eating habits, work outs or being a couch potato..there has always been choices available just that people never took it for the lack of will power and a cohesive mind
@ William above - some antidepressants actually increase the craving for carbohydrate based foods, which sees dramatic weight gain.
This can lead to self esteem issues in people who can least afford them, thus creating a bit of a cycle.
food is good for health until it does not exceeds limit
Its not true that all overweight people have an addictive behavior. Food carving is something that every person will have. When you are conscious about your weight you feel as if you need more to eat or you are stopped from eating more. But you are not actually eating more. Special attention is definitely needed about the food you eat when you are very serious about your weight.
I would imagine it definitely does connect. Overeating is often an addiction, something people do when they are depressed, anxious etc. etc. The same is true for drugs and alcohol, people turn to them when they feel they cannot cope with life and all it throws their way.
I know I am a comfort eater too and as far as I’m concerned it is an addiction. I am a generally obsessive personality though, so basically I am screwed
I’m having so much trouble with weight. I find it easy to watch what I eat when I’m at my house but at work when its put in front of me I just go to town. My dad has the same issues. Its something that runs in the genes I guess.
Being overweight has nothing to do with addiction. Visa Versa, I could understand some addicitons leading to weight gain–like food and videogames. I would like little guys would get more addicted to drugs and things because there is so little effort for the drugs to take over their weee little bodies.
Maybe change your addictive to be something active, some fun exercises would help. I am addicted to computer games and internet and I can see that when i sit with them for a month i gain weight about 2-3 kilos at that time i don’t have to travel to work, i stayed in the office, but now i have change my job and work place, then i have a chance to do some walking and traveling then my weight is getting back normal…
First off, I love spider solitaire, better than freecell or solitaire which my parents love. Which brings me onto my next point - they always play freecell or solitaire, but they are not overweight. I dont believe there is a corelation, but who knows….
Adam
P.S. I am going to play spider solitaire too
lol
It’s true for me. I am an addictive person.
Overweight can be completely treated as the same fasion as any other compulsive disorde! Nobody wanna become fat possibly. Overweight is not so sure to link with an addictive personality. Yes, it is because of hormones sometimes. And everyone should be confident to change present situation, to be a person loved and satisfactory by ourselves!
Yeah, we all have our own addictions in one way or another. In my case, I’m addicted to playing the guitar and collecting ATV magazines . Addiction is not always bad. Some can make you a better person. It’s a matter of choice and discipline. But, I still believe in moderation and living in balance. What about you guys?
Good Exercise VS Addictive Behaviors
Just another way to keep your mind occupied, I suppose. Lots of people eat to take their mind away from problems. So it could be related, but I wouldn’t draw any conclusions until you check in with a shrink and get it verified.
I am not sure bout addictive personality, just keep the det, I gess.
but who knows.
Can be.
Cheers for the article,
Regards,
Jonny Tapety
hey, great post, iam gonna put a link to it from my san francisco hostels and travel web site/blog

I don’t think weight and addiction are anyway related. I have seen a lot of my friends (skinny ones) getting addicted to spider solitaire or minesweeper or other games.
Though it doesn’t really concern being overweight … I have an addictive personality myself, and I am extremely underweight. Thyroid issues go to both extremes. This is why I try to research weight loss, as well as weight gain.
My addictive personality leads me to obsessing about things, and not eating, or filling with liquid diets. This does cause me to lose weight, however for a 25 year old male to weigh 125lbs at 6′0″ tall, I really believe that being addicted to my passions, and obsessing over things causes my body to get out of whack.
I have tried weight watchers and a few other things before in the past, but always get off track, now I am hoping by blogging about my journey like you I will be able to stay on track.
nice post for those who always want to lose the weight!
I am sure some over weight people have addictive personalities but the reasons many people are overweight are all over the board. Some of us were over weight as children, some over eat and don’t exercise, some have genetics that pre determine that they be overweight. That is why it is essential to determine the cause of your weight problem and then attempts to work on it. That is when the real work starts.
I am overweight too, but it not always because addiction to food. Sometime it does.
Actually I dunno. I think there are a variety of ways that cause people to be overweight. Addictive personality is definitely one of them though.. but other ways I think is eating for pleasure or emotional comfort, and also genes. I’ve noticed that if parents etc are overweight.. chances are the kid grows up to be overweight as well!
How you looks matters a most
I’m not sure its always linked, but it sure has the potential
It’s human nature - we can get addicted to everything. Especially if it’s good. And there are few things better and in more varieties than food.
The mere mention of addictive personalities conjures up images of drug addicts and compulsive gamblers. Addictions don’t have to be negative, other than that the participant is addicted.
good article and its really helpful for me.. i will tell it to my friend this good article
it is for some people. The two factors do not always go hand in
all people have different eating orders but not all people are fat but sometimes staying at one place and doin nothing gets u overweight cause we miss out of activity of moving places we spend the rest of our hours just eating and sitting no workouts thats the major reason for overweights.
i think sometimes we eat bcoz we want, not bcoz hungry..
i was like that..
maybe some people have addicted, bcoz for them without food in their mouth, their feel bored n uncomfortable..
Weight loss has become a major problem now a days. People tend to see to hire people for weight loss problem. You are not addict but its normal.
Good article really help the people struggling with overweight, Some people getting overweight as they are not eating much.Keep mind concentrate in things and try for the best.
I don’t think there is only one answer to this. It cant be either this or that. reasons for gaining Weight is quite complicated - as complicated as loosing it.
cheers
I think you have said a very good point there. Many people are doing the cayenne pepper diet have been telling me that they are having a little of addictive personality
its not always addiction which make people fat…many other people who are addicted towards food, work, etc. are found slim, fit and healthy..well yoga is the best option to get rid over the extra fats..
No, its not a bad personality to be overweight. Although people think that it is good to be slim, i personally belive that medium weight is the icon of healthy people.
It’s the really nice story and info
from your great blog
I really, really enjoy
keep it up……
Being overweight can be many things but the main reason is - it’s an emotional issue that has not been dealt with properly coupled with any number of things. You can quit the eating if you take the philosophy - I eat to live and not live to eat and food is not love. I was overweight as a child and only recently figured out some things in my life. I am now 40 and it was painful and took a long time.
I lost 65 lbs and kept it off for a number of years. What I found to work for me was exactly what you were talking about. I became obsessed with my diet. First I became obsessed with counting weight watchers points then the last time I was equally obsessed with my modified Mediterranean diet. I think we have these obsessions and if we can transfer them to our diet it can be helpful. At least it was for me.
I also struggle with my weight, and people tell me that I have an addictive personality. So I think you may be on to something with that.
I don’t know for sure, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is. Eating is most definitely addictive and is often a substitute for other addictive things.
Maybe for some but not really all overweight people have addictive tendencies. I agree though that it could be treated!!!
don’t think it that way.. its all about life choice not addictive case… but I believe too that healthy does not mean..skinny…
i suggest to diet
I think not all overweight people have a addictive personality. It only depends to someone on how they going to control thereselves..
I dont other peoples view about it but i love to eat more and more because after eating very well then only we feel satisfied & relaxed but the main key point about is that we should eat only healthy & dietary food !
I will say being the owner of my hotels i love to eat more and more & it gicesme addictive personality!
I partially will agress on this. Eating not the only reason for over-weight. There will be so many other health issues for over weight.
I partially will agree on this. Eating not the only reason for over-weight. There will be so many other health issues for over weight.
I will partially agree on this. Eating not the only reason for over-weight. There will be so many other health issues for over weight.
thank you for this information.it sounds interesting! i appreciate this blog so informative Fantastic Job.
Great article and interesting topic of debate! I think it just depends on the person. There are so many different things that may be responsible for a person being overweight. And yes, an addictive personality is one. I’ve witnessed each member of a family express their addictive personality in different ways - some with drugs, some with alcohol, some with shopping, and many with food.
:-) Great share article.. I agree with you..
Personally I don’t always think that being overweight is linked to having an addictive personality. Sometimes the urge to eat is actually a result of an active personality.
Another thought - part of the addiction may be over obsession with other people-s opinions of how one might be perceived.
I have something to confess here. I’m not overweight but I am addicted in eating. And I mean eating…
How did I do that?? nothing.
My father is like me too. I can say that being overweight has a lot of factors. First to consider is genetically. Then your way of living. And last is maybe you’re in some kind of medical condition.
Nice article ! I’m going to share this (hope you don’t mind!) This is the basic stuff you do every day but people need to hear about. Thanks for sharing!
hmmm, sometimes its not an addictive personality we have, just the constant need to be doing something.
Perhaps when you have won spider solitaire you will go back to being a work addict.
ofcourse if someone has an eating addiction, perhaps it can also be swapped to becoming addicted to the Gym or working out.
Like blessings has commented, there is not one answer to this. But goodluck!
I think it can be, poeple who are addicted to one thing, do seam to become more addicted to something else.
poeple who are addicted to one thing, do seam to become more addicted to something else.
No, from the people i know i would say the two factors are not linked.
I don’t think so. It’s something totally different.
Hi, I am also an overweight myself but I don’t think that if we enjoy to do something more that we can imagine is consider addiction, I only enjoy it, like if I like a certain movie I keep on watching it at least once a day for a month and be gone with it, I only watch it that often aside from the fact that i really like the movie, it also helps me relax and easily catch my sleep to have a goodnight sleep, is that consider addictive?
I do not this that it is addictiveness. It is just the daily routine of eating and i am sure if you try to control it it surely come to normal. It is better to loose weight by natural means rather than opting for some medical kinda stuff.
Now i would say that point which you people don’t like !i am very thin guy & you all are fat so why are you annoying me !i feel very bad looking for myself my best one !do you know how do you feel when you are away from the society because3the look which you have doesn’t resembles than the other so what is the opinion for it!
I think that it is find happiness in food and it is really a big problem. This is not dependence but depression due to a problem in life.
For me i think being the over weighted person doesn’t affects the personality of anyone but the only thing which is most know that it makes you different from the others in the society so for me i think we should control on our eating habit & have a perfect diet plan!
I used to be overweight and tried every type of diet I could find. I play golf now needless to say and its made a huge difference. Having a hobby that requires a little exercise and being outdoors is great. Try it!
It doesn’t matter what people call you….you need not control on your eating habits unless it is necessary to do so. The post is simply great and i liked to read the experiences shared by others.
An addictive personality as a factor of being overweigh.
Interesting.
Cheers for the share!
Good article!

I think that addictive personality can be a reason of become overweigh but not always and. It’s depends on individual.
Nice post though!
Janet Gify
Good point in your posts!
in my point of view i dont think that being an overweight person affects our image & personality in the society because i am also a fatty guy but till now i dont have any problem related to it accept sometime i eat a lot when thought to have some extras!
very Good article really help the people struggling with overweight, Some people getting overweight as they are not eating much.
The mere mention of addictive personalities conjures up images of drug addicts and compulsive gamblers. reasons for gaining Weight is quite complicate
Most people who have weight issues either have hormonal problems or emotional and psychological problems, where in they resort to food and eating a lot of it to deal with their daily stresses. The advice of a health care professional is really important.
Interesting thoughts, I consider myself an addictive person. There are some things I can’t live without but I’m not overweight. Just not yet
IN my view of point i dont think so that there is any difference in your personality if you are having an overweight personality if the persons in your society are able to understand you so for me it has not any importance!
Probably has more to do with being consistently inconsistent with diet/exercise programs. I too am a start and stopper or a quick changer. I keep moving on to different things that are addictive for a week or two and then get old. So I move on to the next “addictive” activity that takes up free time or in this case exercise time.
it was great reading the post some interesting article.
I agree that addictive personalities can easily fall into that trap of being over eating- just as certain people can become addicted to drugs and alcohol- it is an addiction and should be treated as one.
it might be addictive, but its still not an excuse to stay that way, i mean what are you going to see to all the people that did brake the habit and got into shape?
I don’t think the addictive personality constitutes to being overweight, but the other way around. It’s more on hereditary really.
Hi Lizzie, thanks you for sharing your thoughts
Well, people can get fat because of many reasons, some get fat because they eat too much, but some also get fat because of hormonal. Some get fat because they don’t exercise at all. I think we should life in balance, we may eat much but we must exercise too. For those who has problem with hormonal will probably harder, but if they make a good effort it’s not impossible for having great body.
I believe that some people are prone to becoming addicted to just about anything. I once had a doctor that told me I needed to become addicted to something healthy, like swimming or skipping rope! He told me that for people like us, thats just as easy as becoming addicted to booze or cigarettes!
Thanks for sharing, great article. Any one who suffer from Chronic Pain, You can buy Chronic Pain relief medicine online with no prescription at
http://www.chronicpainrelief.us?c=july9ps
much weight is really a problem
This is nice info. Thanks.
After reading your post, I have come to know about many new things. Thanks for that.
i think not all fat has addictive personality. And not all fat became fat by eating foods. Others are due to hormonal problems.
No, I don’t believe so, but thats just going by the friends I know who have addicitive personalities (my self included) who are not overwieght.
Many people over-eat because of boredom or if they are upset though.
I think that there are some people who are just naturally a little heavier than others. However, that does not mean that they are unhealthy or have addictive personalities.
Nice article and i think that many people may be really in need of this. Loosing weight is not so easy.
i don’t think so, addictive personality has anything to do with overweight ! yes, overweight may be one of reason of addiction, but there could be many reasons behind obesity, generally, obesity is characterized by the presence of excess fatty tissue, called adipose, usually accumulating around the waist. People with a larger waist circumference are considered more obese and are often of a higher weight and higher cardiovascular risk. The reason could be product of both environment (diet and lifestyle) and genetics.
I think it is up to us to keep an eye on our weight, loosing weight is not an instant job and it takes a lot of time and needs patience.
The mere mention of addictive personalities conjures up images of drug addicts and compulsive gamblers
In spite of the variety of activities that can be considered addictive, people who engage in them tend to have certain attitudes and types of behavior in common.
Being overweight can be considered as addiction as it involves eating without having control on self. Eating without control can be quite dangerous in future.
I am fat too, but it not always because addiction to eating. Sometime it does.
Being overweight is not related to addiction and i am sure that many people woul;d feel this. Being overweight is due to genes and it has noting to do with consuming food all the time and all in most cases.
Nice post and i know that loosing weight is not so easy and it needs lot of planning and time with lots of patience.
I love the blog layout design, cool graphic and unique
In my point of view gaining weight s hard .so sugist me with so tips
Good article! Thanks for sharing info.
yeah really losing the weight is not a easy process for this one has to acquire the most right thing for the process known as losing the weight & the necessary thing is the pure dedication to the will to lose the weight!
Very good question. I wonder if anybody knows the answer. I’m definitely an addictive personality and I have been on diet almost my entire life. And I’m not thin. In fact being on diet could be an addiction of its own couldn’t it?
i believe there can be cases of ocd{obbsesive compulsive disorder} with some who are overweight or are addicted to anything. I know someone who is overweight and has ocd problems with exercise, also she obsseses on cleaning. Worth considering
The body of the weight is not depends upon the eating huge it is also one of the reason but it is not major cause the other reason is may be that men or women have some thyroid problem or some hormonal problem.
Weight cannot be lost quickly..it needs a long time of hard work to work on your self to loose weight. It is quite easy to say i can loose weight and be on diet. But it is extremely difficult to follow the the diet rules.
losing the weight i know it is not an easy process but today there are lots of good treatment for it so just try out it!
In my opinion it’s just a coincidence. but I guess it is a great subject for doctorate or research.
Yes, I really think being overweight and AP is related, my whole family is fat and smokes too.
I think it could be, it’s definitely not the cause of it. But, I’m sure that people that get hooked on food can easily get hooked on other stuff. You have to train your brain not to.
i agree.some hormonal problems.it’s for some people
Very good Informative article
Maybe, maybe not. I personally believe that every person is “addicted” or into something no matter how we look like
Seems like they go along together.
It’s a good post. I agree, but every people are different right??
However, thanks for the information
Some people eat to live and some people live to eat
I think you are addicted to that game.
Informative Article. You should keep yourself fit & Smart.
Eating is similar to any kinda addiction, it is a condition is which a particular person cannot keep control on his eating habits and has got liking to eat more and more.
Outsource your work and save more than 50% of your project fees.
Well Lizzie, I don’t think being over weight is linked to an addictive personality. But your article was great I like it!

What size should I stop at?
We suggested that once you have achieved the size that you want, you should stop taking our capsules, because some women will find a size larger than 8.5 inches uncomfortable. If you want to take yourself above this level, then the ProSolution Pill System can take you there. The average man will gain 1 to 3 inches on our program.
I heard that the overweight people are more funny and positive.
hello, this is my first post here and i feel i need to comment - at 61 i have been trying to regain slimness for years and now i have having followed the advice I got at this website: www.bodyandsoulweightloss.net - my friend discovered the site and lost so much weight she recomended it to me - I have tried all the diets, spent a fortune and nothing has worked like this. - the topic of addictions is dealt with most elegantly. I am not making a recomendation though I am telling you what worked for me,
Well i think this is good blog
i know some over weighted personalities
this article helps them so much
nice article it was good to read.
I agree with some of the commenters. Every person is different and what might be true for some may not be for others. I myself am extremely thin and get addicted to things easily.
I think overweight is not an addictive personality because there are some cases that depend on the hormones, slow or fast metabolism, or it can be a depression.
Weight loss is completely a mind game, and it is the toughest thing possible.
I’ve overcome weight problems, but the food addiction… I’m still working on that. I think its worse for obsessive personalities.
Well i guess I’ll not grow any smaller. Been on a diet for long months, and yes, there’s no effect at all. That’s why im even trying to stress myself by working at home and making money online through google money master.
This is a very interesting post. Thanks so much for bringing up this subject.
You guys need to get some new post up here soon.
I know when I’m bored I just eat. Or I eat until my mouth says im done not when my stomach says its full
The best way to lose weight it to go in for sports.
I go for a drive every day on a bicycle from 2 до4 hours. At me the form is simply excellent.
I can’t stand people who quit trying to lose weight before they actually entertain the idea of losing the wait. I am not quite so sure that being overweight is linked to an addictive personality but hey anything is possible am I right?
I tend to agree also. You are not addict but its normal.
I am sure that people that get hooked on food can easily get hooked on other stuff. You have to train your brain not to.thanks……
Very nice thought here. I think you are absolutely right. But I would say that all of us are a little bit addictive to some things. So it can’t be the main problem of overweight. Just have a look hoe many people are smoking nowadays, and they can’t stop. So we can also say that they have addictive personalities. Human just have to overcome their addiction to bad things and it can’t be any other way.
In some way, yes they are. It’s closely associated with something you have a very high urge for and seem uncontrollable that it gets to be in some ways than one addictive and very destructive.
I become sort of a obsessed with certain things. I define “addiction” as doing something obsessively, knowing it’s either wrong or is keeping me of accomplishing other, more productive things, but doing it anyway, despite the consequences. But i don’t think it is for most overweight people, hormones can be a big factor.
wah artikelnya menarik tapi gak tahu meaning nya ….
Here just control matters
I saw many people who can run and control themself in one field and can’t absolutely control themself in others, so I think the problem with overweight lies deeper that it may seem
i highly doubt that there is much of a correlation between addictive personalities and being overweight. it sounds to me that you you lead a rather sedentary lifestyle, as do most “workaholics.” its a gross generalization, but you are most likely stuck at a desk or cubicle all day long, whether you are working or playing solitaire. the problem that most people don’t recognize is that they are grossly inactive on a day-to-day basis, which is why they are overweight.
Addiction comes in many forms, food is just one of the many.
There are definitely 2 parts to this answer. One is addressing addictive part which is emotional. The other is in all honesty a nutritional imbalance in the physical body. There is certainly the emotional part of eating, feeling depressed, anxiety, stress etc. The reason for the game playing is to get away from something. The way to get out of this is to find the happy emotions that really drive you ie: thinking of a time you were really happy and looking at, what did you do in the lead up of creating this happy time in your life. This starts to get you seeing the things you like to do that make you happy. The second part here is yes you physically can get addicted to food. Everybody has had the carb/sugar addiction. The way to combat this is start increasing intake of protein, snacks, main meals. Protein will satisfy the hunger and help to reduce carb/sugar type snacking and slowly but surely start to bring the body back into some balance. These two things go hand in hand to solve the problem.
Anything can be the focus of an addiction. Whether it be alcohol, drugs, food, TV, the Internet, or sex. That being said, I’m also a therapist who has worked with overweight people.
For many, there is a subconscious reason for keeping the weight on, which has nothing to do with addiction.
It depends. They are only addicted to foods. But if you put into mind what should and should not do or eat, you won’t be addicted. Mind over matter.
Some overweight people are hereditary, some are not like can’t control itself no to eat a lot of foods.
The bodies metabolism becomes out of balance and you can become addicted to carbo-hydrates and sugar. Getting the body back in balance is best achieved with high protein to help the hunger and build the muscles and good balanced nutrition.
I think this is a bit overstretched. Saying that all such people have addictive personality is too much of a generalization.
i agree … food is one of the causes of obesity, especially fatty foods.
We are all addicted to something right? Some just have a more out ward appearing addiction.
You get the point, every addiction brings you to the extreme abuse, so it´s not pointed of how much you eat, but why you eat, maybe a hole to cover. It´s about to find the reason.
I don’t think that there is any accurate answer to this. Being addictive is concerned to your habbites, not your body weight.
I have been overweight since I have my son. It has been annoyed me for a long time.I don’t know how to keep fit because I ate little.Maybe I’m lack of execise.
Wow, what a controversial topic. A lot of people eat to satisfy emotional needs. Depressed people for example could eat to get a sense of control or pleasure or perceived satisfaction. It’s definitely different for different people and not always going to be a result of addictive behaviors.
You know- I never thought about it that way before…I guess you could say that it might be linked in the fact that perhaps people who are overweight are addicted to food? Although- that sounds really obvious.
I am a food addict. I’m not overweight but I never eat because of hunger. My meals are almost always centered around a good movie Im about to watch on TV. I eat slow and my meal could last an hour or more. It’s the only time I feel content but really, the feeling of euphoria is short lived. One hour after the meal, reality always comes crashing in and depression always sets in.
really …
its is very important in today’s life to make your body fit…
I been over weighted and now am going to try these tips…
Thanks a lot
Oh yeah, once hook to a game and lack of excerise, on top of junk food, definitely will put on weight.
The addictive trait is very strong in me. I have been overweight for a while now and am trying to actually get rid of this problem. Definitely not the easiest thing to do, because of the fact of that addictive trait.
I believe boredom has large part to play with alot of people but certainly I know quite a few overweigth people to develop obsessions with computer games. Perhaps this is just a sign of the times that alot of people do not have to leave the house for any particular reason, you can even order your groceries online now.
There are so many factors regarding over weight. It can be due junk food, gobbling in front of tv ,lack of exercise.
excessive damage to human food, but some people do not eat this varki more ymeke is a problem for them because of problems in metabolism to gain weight
I just eat to survive really! It’s not that important to me
I agree. I too am overweight and have an addictive personality.
I don’t think so overweight person is likely to be addictive personality in every case. I think you can be overweight with or without overeating , some time Harmone problems also play vital role for being overweight.
I don’t think that obesity is always linked with and addictive behavior. We
all know people with a very good balance in many areas of life, but dealing all the time with over weight. There are many causes, such as genetics, metabolism, and I tend to think that the human being is a race with an obesity tendency. Only a few percentage of people are naturally slims.
I can believe addictive personality types can become addicted to alcohol or drugs, but is food truly addictiv? People say they crave sugar or chocolate as this has a chemical which reacts with the brain’s serotonin levels and can give a feeling of mild elation or emotional well-being.
Hi,
I might say that a lot of overweight people, and also standard people have the kind of addiction you are talking about. It is not related to weight but to personality and interests. Sometimes, you just find yourself in a state of mind where you have nothing better to do, and you kind of get sucked into something like addicted. nothing wrong with that.
An addictive personality gets hooked not just on food but other things such as games, overworking or being obsessive about little stuff. Exercising self-discipline is one of the biggest challenges in particular when you are inclined to be an addictive personality. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
nice discussion……….this blog is beneficial for overweight people who wants to loose weight.
I do not thing that being addictive has to do with weight; I believe that emotions are related to weight problems and of course, medical issues.
There can definitely be a correlation between being overweight and having an addictive personality. But as they say, correlation does not imply causation. So it’s really hard to tell. There are certainly very many factors that are involved with weight gain. I think one of the most prevalent reasons for weight gain in this country is the all the processed food and junk food that we eat.
I have to agree with some. Not all are addictive. I can tell you I am most certainly not addictive. I don’t emotional eat. I’ve seen skinny people who have CRAZY addictive personalities and emotionally eat. They just go the better genes. I really believe so much more is tied up in that than anything else. I have metabolic syndrome, PCOS and am severly insulin resistance. Only when I eat VERY specifically can I even lose weight. It’s hard being ‘perfect’ every single day. So weight loss is slow at times. But I’m getting there, one day at a time.
For one cookie or milk shake which is like 200 calories for example you have to run a mile and half to burn those 200 calories.
I seriously try to not eat much or go on these diets but I don’t seem to have the will power. I do believe its linked to my addictive personality. The best thing to do with any addiction is to just take baby steps. If it took you five years to get to the point where you are at it will probably take five more years to total get rid of it.
I agree with you when you taste a food that makes your taste buds get into pleasure you can’t stop eating. It easy to gain weight but it’s hard to loss weight even having a daily exercise it takes time to loss weight.
I agree. Some people don’t eat but yet get big.
Study shows that overweight is also linked with your family background. I mean If your parents are overweight then the chances of you being over weight increases
It depends on lot of factors like your family background, eating habit. Recent study shows that genes can be responsible for obesity
sometimes………
and sometimes not……….
I think you should get yourself a personal trainer az
and start training the right way. Trust me it will work like magic
In a way I agree, but some people are different.
I agree with you, Some people only drink water and even they get fat. I think its some kind of inheritance.
I don’t think you’re addicted to food, I think you’re addicted to the way that the food makes you feel, or the emotion. Yes, we are creatures of habit and definitely, if we don’t reprogram our minds to think something different of ourselves, we will definitely stuck in an emotional pattern. This happens throughout all of our lives and the first thing to do is to recognize that we have emotional patterns. Then the next step would be to break them (possibly through positive affirmations, etc.). Are all overweight people addicted? I believe everyone is addicted to emotions! Thanks for opening the discussion!

Hi, I think its informative and useful for me. I have noted some points from
this article, good article for me. Thank you very much for sharing. Regards,
- Bizbamboo
There probably is a correlation between the two, but having an addictive personality can be handy, if you can find a sport that appeals to you. It becomes very easy to become addicted to that sport.
You can definitely say so, just like anything, once it gets ahold of you, you can’t turn away or constrain yourself.
I do think that being overweight may be linked to an addictive personality. However, that’s not to say that it cannot be overcome just like any other addiction.
No one can figure it out that what is the reason behind the weight gaining. its never b only single reason… some persons got that from their forefathers and some get that from their bad eating habits.
I do not think that your addictiveness is as a result of your weight. It can happen to anyone irrespective of how much they are weighing.
Losing weight is a personal issue that many of us are struggling with. If you’ve ever felt like nobody understands what you’re going through.
i have problem with losing weight. help…………
Food is part of our appetite as human being. I think there’s a little truth about being over weight to addictive personality. Whatever too much will definitely produce ample amount of consequences. If someone will go beyond balance dieting…its result will really lead to being overweight or else a disease.
Hmm.. I really don’t think so.
I’m an underweight also that I’m having an addictive personality same as yours.
It maybe the cause of being so bored and the only thing you can play easily on your desktop is only the spider solitaire, point, drag, and clicking is so easy enough. Try another games that’s more enjoyable than that.
that might be true. a lot of us are addicted to different things, not just food.
Hi There! Well, I will say it is various from person to person. I don’t think there is only one answer to this. Reasons for gaining weight is as complicated as loosing it. Sometimes we eat because we want to eat or we like to eat something. Though some people don’t eat more, they gain weight. So there is a versatility in this case. Thanks for sharing the informative article.
thanks for the nice post.
there is always the different metabolisms. Some people have slower metabolisms and some are off the charts.
Yes, that`s true - food is a type of addiction…I`m still fighting and hope that I will overcome it…
Like your sriting style, very nice Could you please write more about this anytime soon.. Added to my google reader… thanks!
Hi, I think its informative and useful for me.
It can be true, i’ve noticed it in a few cases (i help people with weight loss) but at the same time I dont think there is any scientific evidence to support it.
I have tried weight watchers and a few other things before in the past, but always get off track, now I am hoping by blogging about my journey like you I will be able to stay on track.
Haha, I lol’d - my mother is addicted to spider solitaire too. I’d write more but I’m working - adding you to bookmarks for later though
I wouldn’t want to draw a similarity between being overweight and addictions. When you come to think of it and you reflect for a moment you notice that you’re addicted (or ‘used’) to a lot of things. Your morning cup of coffee. Having a drink after dinner, going online etc. Just take some time every once in a while to look back on what you’re doing. A good way to do that is a change of scenery. Go out to the woods or something and think about things. That usually works for me!
Good luck!
thanks so muach for your information
Hi,
in my experience addicted behaviour does exist but it stems from other parts of a person’s beleif system. We all behave a certain way because of our thinking processes. I lost 100lb + and changing my thinking was critical. I used to have behaviour you could call addictive but not any more
dave
I know some people don’t eat but still get big. It’s genetical and in that case only doctors could help
Thanks for the great article and I agree with you man..
Maybe you have just slow metabolism. Maybe you do not have any disorder. I have accelerated metabolism but I accepted that fact.
I agree if the addictive habit correlates to intaking outnumber foods particularly consuming fast food. thanks for sharing
Do you know this secret? One-year-old girl “pregnancy” in stomach and some monstrous fetus goes to http://business8.co.cc to look
LOL, I think this subject is very debatable. I believe everyone has an addictive personality to some extent. Whether it’s eating, working or spider solitaire, the fact is everyone needs something to keep them busy!
Yep. It makes sense. However, don’t forget about disease and some unhealthy factors: stress, fatigue, bad timetable etc.
Obesity is also a disease due to a pituitary gland issue. I am not aware of what exactly happens so you would need to research it more. However what is needed is a diet and excersise routine to control it.
My opinion is gaining weight is easy but losing them is a headache so this is a great site with fantastic tips.
I definitely think that having an addictive personality is a holistic thing. People who quit one addition, often develop others. There is a good aspect to this, though: if you can find something you’re passionate about that’s positive (i.e. working out, volunteering, starting a business) your addiction can actually make your life and the lives of the people around you a lot better!
Thnx
I think you have said a very good point there. Many people are doing the cayenne pepper diet have been telling me that they are having a little of addictive personality.
Totally Agree That Being Overweight Linked to an Addictive Personality…
Thanks for sharing. Addictive behavior is actually a psychosis. Very much related to obsessive compulsive. And the answer is yes AB is prone to weight issues.
I think that it really depends on the person. I struggle with some bad eating habits but I don’t have OCD so I don’t know…
I too believe people with addictive personalities may be prone to becoming obese. With that being said the same could be said in reverse about pretty much anything. People whom are in great shape maybe addicted to fitness. Heck food addiction wouldn’t be a bad thing if the person were to understand nutrition in a proper manner, healthy food can be quite tasty. Someone mentioned genetics and metabolism, genetics and metabolism are the same thing, unless you are referring to a hereditary condition which impacts the thyroid in which case you would be getting a little off topic. Just because someone is an endomorph does not mean they will be fat. In my opinion the biggest cause of obesity is lack of education about proper weight training and nutrition.
I think you can be addicted to anything, and having that predisposition probably does contribute to a lot of people’s obesity, but there are lots of other causes as well…
Yes I agree. Overweight and obese individuals have difficulty resisting cravings and lack methodical and organized behaviors that might influence diet and weight control. Although individuals’ traits have limited impact on the current obesogenic epidemic, personality traits can improve clinical assessment, suggest points of intervention, and help tailor prevention and treatment approaches.
Obesity at an extreme condition can kill you after a particular stage and i am sure that many people will not like it. It is needed to spread awareness about the need to keep yourself fit. The post will surely help to learn lots of things and will help to solve a lot of problems.
I agree people who are over weight probably have an addiction to over eating so they probably also could get addicted to other substances or activities fairly easily
I didn’t think obesity was linked with that addictive behavior, everyone I know with a good area in life, is dealing all the time with over weight issues. Many causes like genetics, metabolism, tend to think that the human race is a race of obesity tendecy. ONly a few percentage of people are naturally slim
I think everyone has an addictive personality to some extent its just how well we can keep our ‘bad’ addictions in check. Great short article though, definitely provokes some thought on the subject.
I don’t think overweight linked to an addictive personality. For me, i don’t think food make us fat, but our mind make us fat. If you think that after eating that food, you will gain 1 pound, you actually make a wish and you will gain 1 pound. That is the power of mind.
I think the 2 are interlinked immensely, albeit not true in absolutely every case.
I think you might be right to an extent. Addictive personality is very difficult to live with because everything has to be perfect. In a world that isn’t always perfect sometimes the reality kicks in and we self-destruct under the pressure. This can be over-eating, heavy drug and alcohol abuse and more. At any rate, thanks for sharing and your blog is great!
It’s possible but there are many other causes. You should consider NLP you can lose weight without any pills or crap diet and change your personality.
I don’t think anything is really part of an addictive behavior. I think that almost everything you do is a habit. So you got into the habit of playing that card game… well maybe it might be addictive too.
But like any habit you can break it. So I guess yes in a big way I think obesity is a creature of habit… of course there is a lot more to it.
Now that I’m writing this comment, I am starting to think more and more about this… very interesting.
I am not sure your post reflects all of the truth regarding people with overweight. Some of them do have different metabolisms and burn fat slower than the average human being. To make matters worse, I know from experience that there are medications used to treat bipolar disorder that will screw your metabolism so badly that you can easily gain 10% of your body mass (like Zyprexa, for example).
I have an addictive personality, but it affects me in a different way. I am addicted to weight loss supplements and fixating on my weight.. I don’t think you will necessarily become obese because you have an addictive personality, however I think the two could go hand in hand– if you were addicted to food and became obese… I do not think addictive personality = obesity, or obesity = addictive personality. I’m not a doctor though.. personal opinion/view.
Its possible that its because of genetics
You just might be on to something. If that is the case and those that are overweight and are addicted to food they can now realize it and change their habit from food to something else.
I don’t agree with herbal about genetics or metabolism being a cause to obesity. Metabolism can be controlled and people mistake genetic obesity with simple bad eating habits gained from parents with bad eating habits. So it isn’t really a genetic thing at all if you carry on the bad habits of your parents then of course you will be overweight if they were and the other hand if you break away from their bad eating habits you can be a healthy weight. Here is a site with some information on foods that help reduce belly fat http://www.journeydownthescale.info Good luck to you! Oh and eat fiber foods early in your day they keep you feeling full and you will naturally make a better choice when it comes to eating meals.
I am with you on that one, I cannot stop eating chocolate! Im so addicted it is not even funny, but I do my best to go to the gym and eat other healthy foods. Cesar and Greek salads are the best!
Weight loss and being over weight is not necessarily linked to overeating and food addiction in all people. Some people just can’t help it because its linked to genetics…
How you looks matters a most
I have read no study or psychiatric journals that confirm a relationship between obesity and an addictive personality.
Obesity doesn’t necessarily come from addictive behavior although it can be a factor.
I do think that it brings up a good point that people need to think about. Just like quiting smoking stopping the eating binges can be a hard task and will not com easily.
Much determination and willpower will be needed!!
Thought provoking article!!
Sometimes I wonder if food has anything to do with weight gain. I believe I could gain weight on a water only diet! As far as an addiction, I doubt it. I think fighting a weight gain is depressing and that may lead to more eating.
Yes, I strongly believe weight gain can easily be linked to addictions.
Have you ever had a look at the amount of caffeine you’ll find in a coca cola. Caffeine is an addiction as we all know and sadly coca cola is loaded with sugar, far too much sugar - in the UK it’s about 36g per 33cl. Crazy!
I really think this issue goes so deep into the human psyche, all the way back to when one was an infant. Very complicated! No easy answer!
I agree with you, I’ve been addicted to eat
I believe that a lot of people are like this but it is certainly not the root of the problem. I personally have a problem with overeating and I feel a lot of times it is just because I love food so much and can’t get enough of it. I know it is bad but eating is just a way for me to enjoy my life, even though I overeat often and have a few pounds that I don’t want.
All people are different… Food article.
Hmm. I think it is linked with addictive behavior. My dad is over weight and he is addicted to playing a video game called Ghost Recon all the time. It’s became such a problem that he does not even want to work anymore.
blogginghealthy
Part of your addiction is the fact that yhour metabolism is obviously running slower than it should. This leads to all sorts of metabolic problems, not least of which is a messed up insulin balance. When this happens you find yourself craving carbohydrates yet no matter how much you eat, you never feel satisfied.
It becomes a viscous circle and the cravings presents as an addiction.
You can get free tips and advice on how you can help speed up your metabolism and start to break that viscous circle at this website.
Some people can workout out 7 days a week and still not loose weight. Of course over eating has a lot to do with weight gain. I feel genetics have a lot to do with it. Some people just have genes that make it 50 times harder to loose weight.
I think it depends the kind of person. Maybe a compulsive one is more probable to have adictive behaviors.
Some interesting points here
Thank you.
No not at all
I don’t think that the two are linked. I myself have learned to play spider solitaire and find myself playing nonstop!! Maybe it’s the game!!
Seeing how dieting and exercise can make you slimmer and slimmer can also be very addictive. I agree that getting from the habit of being overweight into a lifestyle of habits that supports weight loss is very very difficult, but possible.
I struggle with my weight as well. But I have successfully lost 25 pounds over the last 6 months. I have another 30 to my goal weight so I really enjoy your posts.
I am currently in love with my Chalene Extreme videos. It is a series of 5 different workouts, one for each day of the week and 2 rest days. They are relatively short at 30-40 minutes each. They focus on lifting weights and this has had a good impact on my metabolism.
Also, I just picked up the book, “I Can Make You Thin” from Paul McKenna. The book is not a new diet plan but a way to re-wire your brains response to food and hunger. Especially for us serial dieters. It is a short book, I am half way through in only about 2 hours. I will try the techniques and let you know how I do.
I’ve heard this theory a few times and I believe it to a certain extent. On the other hand, if you are claiming that an addictive personality helped with a weight problem, then if you are motivated to workout, it should become addictive. If my theory is true then you should be addicted to working out and eating properly and you should lose some weight.
Some people just have really crappy genetics and others just are flat out lazy to not exercise. But its possible for some over weight people to have some kind of addictive complex.
I agree with Herbal, addictive personalities could be a factor, but its factor in other issues as well. Thanks for the post.
Maybe! I am overweight too and once I start playing those games on facebook, I can’t seem to stop! Same thing with chocolate, lol!
“do most overweight people have addictive personalities”
chance there is strong connection between those two.
FAT
Although there is probably no strong or proven connection, you (or whoever) should easly spot the similarities what you do or behave when discover addictive game - like you describing here in this post.. and when you discoved some very tasty new kind of food…
definitelly sth to think about…
thx for post…that remindes me to stay away from computer games
bye, chris
I think you’re right, Lizzie.
An addictive personality can affect your body. For example if you are addictive to game and snack, you can play game while eating snack for hours. That will, of course, make you fat before you realized it.
Or if you are addicted to alcohol…I think there’s an effect too, though I’m not sure what the effect is.
Laptop computers
Being overweight depends really on how a person can balance their lifestyle. It’s a matter of disciplining one’s self in what food to take and enough exercise everyday.
I can here the new knowledge.
Thanks for the great reference post.
Actually, there are psychological factors as well as physical factors. The former mainly comes from that you find it hard to lose your habit and gradually you lose confidence. And then you begin to lose confidence for everything you are doing or even your are trying to do.
i´m totally agree with you. great post.
The advice of a health care professional is really important for fat people.
thank you for sharing
yes , not eating a lot is the only cause of weight gain , it’s also a hormonal thing
I think one can not directly relate the obesity with eating habits and hormonal effects or vice-versa all the times.
@Herbal: definitely! i too loves to eat and even attended culinary course just to satisfy my cravings at any time but yet I am not fat.. (wink)
thanks for the post.
i think both are linkedf togerher
I’m not a doctor, but I think obesity has more to do with genetics than it does with tendency toward addiction. I know a lot of overweight people with no other addictions. I also know overweight people who work out a lot but do not lose weight.
I don’t think it’s the only reason, but it’s definitely one of the factors. I get pretty hooked very easily as well, but I tend to eat in small amounts. It takes a lot of patience and discipline to control it though.
Hi,
I like this blog and all information about eating more. i hate to eat more and it is good to make slim your body for feeling activeness to work and enhance the personality.Good information , would like to read more.

People are different - obesity isnt always linked to addictive personality
i don’t think all overweight people have addictive personalities because not all those who are overweight like to always eat. Some are caused by hormonal problems or slow metabolism. I think it varies from person to person regardless of weight.
Being addictive differs in each individual. Though there are certain other factors linked to being overweight, in this matter; yes. There is a study shown that being overweight is somehow linked to addictive personality. Overweight and obese individuals had the tendency to have difficulty to avoid cravings for foods. Discipline is vital.
I don’t think an addictive personality is connected to being overweight.
I agreed. Personal addict is may not concern by more people who cause of overweight. Do nothing. Not exercise is also the factor being get more weight on you body.
I am overweight too… can’t do much with it
I have many addiction issues including food, but Ive been in recovery for three years and Ive come a long way.
Nice Topic ,
Thank You.
I could see that being a contributing factor, but definitely not the sole reasoning
I read this article.it is really nice post with have a great idea on this topic.
eating is an addiction, and so is the Spider Solitaire. but its quite certain that if you really want to lose some additional fat, you have to avoid both of them. to me, its not possible to eat less (because of the addiction), so is the game (i really love it
). therefore, avoiding them completely is wise.
No , i think that all fat became fat by eating much food
I agree that stress can be a really negative influence on weight, but all people diff rant.
nice article. thanks for the sharing your opinions with us.
Very nice post i totally enjoy the content of this post and i will share this to my friends.
Good tips, doing what you love is key to staying in shape. When it feels like a chore, you’re not going to do it.
Get Weight lost quickly is not that good, because our body need time to adaptation with new weight. We need hard work and motivation to get ideal weight. Btw great post !
Great article. I totally agree with you, overweight friends of mine has kind of a addiction problem, from eating, playing games and drinking alcohol . Keep up the good work.
now i m binging on all kinds of crap food every day, this may sound weird but this bothers me a whole lot because I’m in good shape weighing 105, and i fear this wiil make me obese and something..is it true some people have an addictive personality?
Yup..“modern conveniences” is the most important factor responsible for overweight. however, fast food and lack of exercise is also an additional point in the gain of weight.
In my own opinion obesity has side effects like addiction to many things. Mostly most of them are just addicted to foods, computer games and movies. This could be treated by motivating yourself to reduce weight and change lifestyle.

Personality traits underlie maladaptive behaviors, and cognitive and emotional disturbances that contribute to major preventable causes of global disease burden. This study examines detailed personality profiles of underweight, normal, and overweight individuals to provide insights into the causes and treatments of abnormal weight.
I go through cravens of certain foods and when I do I can eat a ton of it.
Hmmm… I think I’m only addicted to chocolate! Having an addictive personality doesn’t always have to take the form of drugs or alcohol. It can manifest itself as obsessing thanks a lot.
I agree with you, I’ve been addicted to eat
I agree with you, but i don’t think it is for most overweight people.
few percentage of people are naturally slims.

I think the information presented will be useful to many people a lot. I don’t think being overweight is linked to an addictive personality. However, an addictive personality may lead to being overweight - that would be an interesting study.
I do agree with you as i am affected to this obesity and my age is just 19 and my weight is over 90 kgs………………:(
I have found pleasant results with the Fat Burning Furnace.

Great post having an addictive personality doesn’t always have to take the form of drugs or alcohol. It can manifest itself as obsessing…
i agree with Mr.Herbal that there is genetics and metabolism problems that tend to a human over weight. To control weight or to loss weight should be participate in healthy games like foot ball or others not like “Spider Solitaire”
Thanks
Well, I’m addicted to computers… And my girlfriend… And I’m sortof overweight…
There MIGHT be a link
Good article really help the people struggling with overweight, Some people getting overweight as they are not eating much.
I have read your article, very interesting and help us to effort in diet
Good afternoon … my friends and I love this site, very good, congratulations, always visit.
I disagree with the article. If being overweight is linked to an addictive personality then how about the thin smokers who are addictive. I’d like to believe addiction is more down to genetics.
i am a “vegetarian” who eats fish. I am looking for a weight loss plan that will help me lose some weight while still not eating any meat other than fish.
Really fantastic article, specially that part on abdominal contractions. And lots of great comments with good content. I´ve found a site pretty similar to yours. It´s also about how to reduce hips and thighs. I think that site is awesome…
I agree, there can be problems with genetics but you also should check these things out with the doctor, if there are no problems then look to your diet and exercise plan…
Nice discussion this is pretty helpful for who want to lose the weight.
I think I would have to agree.
I hav an addictive personality and my weight goes up and down all the time.
sometimes………
and sometimes not……….
depends how fat you are
I agree this!
There are alot of things that play a factor in Obesity. I think some people can’t help it and others bring it on themselves. Laziness can play a huge part in obesity also.
yeah but it can go both ways because I have known people who have struggled with eating disorders for years, something you cannot control is addiction
There are many different causes for being overweight or obese. Addiction is just one part of the puzzle. There are many others - hormonal disorder, genes, environment, traditions, lifestyle, environment…
I think there is a lot of us in the world today that eat because we get bored and have nothing else to do. I have a very bad habit of when I am watching TV grabbing chips and dip or something to snack on but I am not really actually hungry. I just eat because I like it sometimes. I am ready for a change. I want to lose weight and I don’t want to depend on food at all.
cant understand
What a great post. and comments. I work in the addiction field and I don’t believe there is a direct connection between the two.(addiction & being overweight) The is not to say it couldn’t be the case in some people. This should be looked at as good news because the success rate at treating addiction is not very good. I would guess that many more people lose weight than kick an addiction to drugs.

Very good article and blog, thanks for the info.
Weight cannot be lost quickly. Many people are doing the cayenne pepper diet and telling that they are having a little of addictive personality
i don’t think fat means that you have an addiction problem just that you probably don’t exercise enough.
It’s an interesting blog, many people have these kind of problem ,say fatigue, overweight etc..
Think that the solution that you prescribed will be effective.
Excellent post. I totally agree with your words. I agree with the majority of it, it seems to make sense. The good resource should be brought in bookmarks. Thanks a bunch for sharing.
Most people I spoke to have addictive personalities and have the same issues as me.
I think the trick is replacing your addition with another healthier addiction.
Eg. If you eat when angry, do something else that occupies you and makes you feel good when angry.
Warm regards,

It is definitely linked but they don’t necessarily go hand in hand. Many people have addictive personalities, but are not obese. For example a person who is highly addicted to smoking will probably not have a weight problem.
I do not agree with the view that being overweight can directly be linked to an addicted personality..there can be different reasons for being overweight ..anyway this blog puts forward some good points..and the discussions are really good .
Recently, this reporter was informed that, subject to review because of alleged serious violation of discipline up to a year-old former vice-president of Supreme People’s Court Ponderosa Pine there is a case in the near term may be transferred to the court by the prosecution into the trial proceedings.
If you are overweight, I agree that the weight cannot be lost quickly. Following the diet rules is another hard thing. That’s why it is true that people who are overweight have a little of addictive personality.

It’s somewhat related. I’m addicted to my computer which means less exercise for me.
I was very impressed and felt had to get a valuable experience after reading your article. I will learn more and I’ll try to implement. thanks for sharing
The body of the weight is not depends ,,
but i agree with you
You can’t put everyone in the same category. But I do believe O.C.D. could defiantly be a cause for many people’s weight problem.
Its so nice to see this good information in your post, I was looking the same which you post on blog, thanks now I have the thing which I was looking for, regards.
Great Blog, I am glad that there are others in the same boat as me, in trying to lose weight. I sometimes feel like a yoyo with my weight going up and down. I do have a strong personality and that sometimes comes across as being sarcastic, I guess I just never made the connection between that and my weight problem.
I have read too many reviews about loosing weight. But those tips will be useless if there is no discipline. Determination and discipline are really important but achieve great results.
A very good idea. Will try to take you like to learn more. Thanks for sharing good things to come.
I agree with some of the comments here. Discipline is the key. If you don’t have that then even the greatest health consultant can’t help you.
I think for some people, this holds true. And it definitely is common. Considering that eating is responsible for inducing pleasure in the brain, it’s more than plausible.
