Nicholas Cage Should be Ashamed of Himself

I don’t usually get too far off topic like this, but I had to say something.

Last weekend, we all decided to go out to the movies. We didn’t know what was playing at what time, so we were taking a chance on what would be available to see. Now the boys wanted to see the new X-men movie. Fortunately for them, it was playing about every 10 minutes. So they got to see the movie they wanted to see. I was with my daughter, who is 13 and I don’t let her see R rated movies yet, so that limited our choices even more. I wanted to see “The Soloist” or “Taken”, but neither was playing at the right time.Â We were left with a choice of “Hannah Montana”, which was a definite NO; or “Knowing”. I thought it couldn’t be too bad because I’ve enjoyed many films starring Nicholas Cage. In fact, I loved him in “Leaving Las Vegas” – excellent movie, if you ever get the chance.

Knowing, has to be one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. It was absolutely ridiculous. There were religious signs and symbols throughout the movie. There were so other things that made no sense at all. My daughter and I kept asking each other during the movie if the other wanted to leave. Unfortunately we stuck it out. The ending was just bad. It’s like they couldn’t figure out how to end this horrific movie and picked something out of a hat.

It was just awful.

I liked the movie, of course I like to be entertained and do not enjoy movies that are miserable and depressing. I rather see a movie that is out of the ordinary. The premise or story of this film actually was brilliant but you’re right about the excecution. Horrible. They were just doin it to make the money, that’s obvious.

The writer that invisioned the idea was probably devastated that his work was botched in such a cynical way.

Still liked it for the entertainment value though.

I’ll have to disagree with you there. I actually liked the movie and found it quit interesting. Nicholas Cage had a lot of great movies and this was not by far the best, but for me at least the story line and plot seemed pretty interesting. I mean there trying to save the world and all (and I thought they were going to find an answer of some kind in all those codes that they were deciphering) but… I’ll have to agree with you on the ending…LOL I definitely thought it could have been better than that… My 2 year old is more creative!

The sad thing is that someone like Robert Rodriguez (or, hell, Rob Zombie even) probably could’ve made a movie ten times better for one-tenth the cost than the one that MSJ churned out. For example: in close-up, why’d they CG (and poorly, at that) the Rider’s head? Wouldn’t it have been cheaper to get, say, a real skull and some matches?

And whose bright idea was it to take the concept of a demonic biker and aim it the ‘tween’ demographic?

I pretty much agree, although I did like the ending. I thought it gave some relevance to the whole adam and eve story (at least that’s what I think it was trying to do). Other than that 2 seconds of the movie, it was just awful.

I am so sorry for you guys to choose such a bad movie. My practice is I always read the review before watching it and I also dont beleive them completely. I will just find out elements interesting to me and then take a judgement call and yes there will be a strict MPAA consideration while taking kids along. But ironically nowadays they get a chance to watch those movies well ahead of us.
