Losing weight, one diet at a time; one month at a time…
Back to Ultra Lite – Modified
As I spent the last few months not dieting on the Ultra Lite or any weight loss program, I’ve had time to think about the positive and negative components of Ultra Lite. I’ve compiled a list of items that I believe will ultimately cause me to stumble and not be able to maintain the program through completion. Here is the list and what I plan on changing:
1. No caffeine in my coffee – I can live with this, but…
2. No milk, creamer, any type of “lightening” agent in my coffee – I can’t live like this. I use the Wal-mart brand sugar-free creamer and I’ve found that I MUST continue this practice
3. Only diet Ginger Ale or 7-up to drink – again, I NEED my diet lemon flavored Snapple – I don’t see the problem with this.
4. Only fruit is melon and strawberries – not a big fan of either, I believe I will expand my list of fruits to include others, just not sure which, yet
5. I understand why I cannot have bread, rice – other carbs…. but, I believe I will need to include rice cakes. I will use rice cakes made from brown rice. I have found that I need some foods that I can eat with my hands. My life is a constant emergency and even if it’s not a great idea – I HAVE to eat while I drive sometimes. A fork is far more dangerous in a car than a cell phone (my personal opinion)
That’s my modified weight loss plan today. I will probably be adding to my modifications as they come up, but to be realistic about my future weight loss efforts – I need a little room for reality.

I hope its a great plan of weight loss. Thanks for sahring.

One thing you could also include in your diet is to drink lots of water — so you won’t be drinking as much snapple or soda, even if they are diet. I think the healthiest really is water.

i’m currently in a dilemma very similar to yours – i’m trying to eat healthily and ditch “bad habits”. Here’s my worst problem: bread, rice & pasta. They’re my favourite foods and very hard to give them up. Our mediterranean diet includes LOTS of them, so it’s twice hard to give them up since i’ve grown up living on them! Here’s what i’ve been suggested, hope you may find them a bit useful!!
There’s always brown option to bread & rice – they’re not converted to pure starch in the stomach & they keep you fuller for longer. If you don’t like the taste of brown bread, wholemeal bread is also a good option i’ve heard (same great taste of the white bread – but still good for ya!!)
I saw pasta that is made out of rice the other day at the supermarket – that could also be a great pasta replacement (i believe the brand is Dr.Scotti which is italian) – a bit on the expensive side though x_x; … i also need to get my mom into these things
she’s the one that does the cooking around the house hehehe
Rice cakes are good
they taste just like yummy popcorn! & i agree with you about the fork thing! xD
about 3 years ago
I LOVE bread, rice and pasta!
I thought the Mediterranean diet was supposed to be one of the best and most healthful diets in the world. I guess all things in moderation, though….
Love brown rice and I even love the whole grain breads more than that nasty white bread.
Great suggestions – thanks!

Goodluck in your Ultra Lite diet program. Nice to know that your back in your diet program. Let’s be conscious with what we are eating!
Hope you can live without all those things. Maybe you should take it a bit slowly, like cut down on it a little by little. I mean – the quantity, instead of absolutely giving up on something you like to eat. I’ve noticed it often leads to binges if you pull something out of your diet.

“1. No caffeine in my coffee…”
– why, is caffeine fattening?!? drat…
Try to get some practice eating smaller meals through the day. Try it off an on for a month or so, get in the habbit and try to make it permanent as it’s one of the keys to fitness and healthy eating success.

I really do not see why you can’t have the Snapple or the caffeine. It makes no sense to me.
I believe it has to do with caffeine being an appetite stimulant. That’s the only thing I can think of. Who knows…. but I need my Snapple.
this is just my own personal advice for what’s worked for me to lose weight in a matter of 2 weeks.
first of all my diet is extremely strict. I would drop the snapple and coffee all together because sugar is extremely bad for you. Both sugar and salt(sodium). If you can manage to eat as little bit of sugar and sodium as possible and do cardio for at least 20 min a day at the gym, there really is no reason why you cannot start losing significant amounts of weight very fast.
Also do not go hungry, eat a few small meals a day. When you go hungry your body starts to eat away at your muscles and the less muscle you have the harder it is for your body to burn fat. This is one of the main reasons why women tend to have a harder time losing weight than men(men tend to work out more and have more muscle).
I suggest you start drinking lots of water, there’s nothing wrong with rice and bread in moderation but stay as far as you can from canned/frozen foods as these things usually contain enormous amounts of sodium(which makes you retain water and look bloated/fat). Start reading labels of products, you’ll be surprised what you find is good and bad for you. Rice cakes are a no go, stay away from that because you usually end up eating more than you should of those. Good idea on picking up the fruits, I suggest adding bananas as these contain high amounts of potassium and potassium gets rid of excess water weight.
Good luck.

I can understand the concern with sodium, but my coffee creamer and Snapple are both diet and sugar free. Gotta have my diet Lemon Snapple!
Thank’s for sharing! Now I know that we should be very conscious in all the foods that we eat..
I need to do that as well….but I am SO addicted to caffeine. How did you manage the transition off of it? Cold Turkey?
I’ve just heard about a ton of health benefits of coffee – from lower diabetes to lower colon cancer rates in heavy drinkers. Now that makes a coffe olover feel good.
…but i really need my caffeine
can i just give up vegetables instead? LOL just kidding
about 3 years ago
Nice diet. I should give it a try!
That is one boring looking list of ingredients. I hope that it works for you. Are you getting plenty of exercise? A varied diet with plenty of exercise is a far healthier option than strict restriction over what you consume.
Well that is a crazy list that is a lot to handle. Glad to see you are doing ok and doing something good for yourself with your new weight loss plans.
People want to loose weight but they have no control on their diet. Because of their mismanaged diet their whole day workout becomes waste. If they want they can have a good diet chart from the internet formed by experts.
I need to give up my caffine intake as well. Be sure to keep your diet balanced though!
Oh dear Lord! …. no caffeine?!?!?!?!!?
I don’t think I could survive without caffeine as an integral part of my diet.
If you want to reduce weight quickly you have to check your diet. Otherwise you can go with your routine diet and exercise. The only change in diet you have to do is reduce the consumption of fat a little bit.

You might be better off not drinking anything with flavor but instead only drinking water. You will probably hate it at first but after a few weeks you will be better for it. Also think about the money you will save.

I guess you are right about the caffeine being a stimulant. I know Jillian MIchaels also stresses that you should never drink your calories, and more often than not a caffeine drink has calories.

Being on a diet seems so difficult. Thank god I’m normal weight.
Bottom line is it tough. I’m a coffee lover, and a bread/pasta/rice lover. I’ve been riding my bike to work most everyday hoping that that will balance things out. Main thing is that I’ve been trying to incorporate lots of fruits like bananas, cherries and strawberries in place of desserts. When I find myself wanting something sweet I reach for the fruit. Good luck!!

diet is tough, i just hope that our body will not gain weight rapidly for eating anything we like..but it’s only in our dream, isn’t it?
When I weighed just under 300 lbs, I thought I had to get this weight off. My diet, is like a lot of peoples, but different in other ways. What I did was, cut out sugar (sodas, ice cream etc.) quit my current job and found one that required to me walk at least 8 hours a day. I found that in a mall doing security. Then I drank water with lemon juice only. I did this for over a year, and the weight rolled off.

what worked for me is a combination of diet and exercise. i forced myself to exercise 4x a week. getting started is really the hard part…

What helped me was i just halved the amount i eat… just divide everything in half but same diet… worked well for me.. exercise is a defenite recommeded one…I have been on heaps of diets but i found the halving the servings helped the best…

Once you lose the weights, do you plan to sticking with the diet? I found that as long as I stay away certain drinks/desserts, I am able to maintain my body weight to a manageable level.

you are brave for converting to this kind of alternative diet

Everybody is different and you should try to find a balance of food that you can stick with for the rest of your life. Over all your plan is OK, but i would cut out the melon and also… watch out for carrots.

usually beside dieting, i also force myself to go for gym at least 3 times a week. I do agree keeping to the right diets are the most effective manner.

I had done numerous weight loss program including ultra lite, but don’t think none of them would actually work in the long run.. Hopefully the radical lifestyle changes could give my health back as it was when I was still young and broke..

Good luck with the diet! Just the other day I took the initiative to do something about my weight and the fact that my waist has expanded several inches and can’t fit into any of my pants. I might have to follow a similar plan as yourself to get back in shape.
Sounds like a good plan.
Cutting out calorie filled soft drinks can help tremendously when trying to lose weight. I mostly try to stick to water and green tea.
Sorry to say but I think that diet won’t do any good for you. Main problem is it’s not sustainable. So you may lose a few pounds but at what cost? You’ll pack them back on in a flash, guaranteed. What you need is a reasonable, balanced diet that brings you all you need to get through the day, and something you can stick to for months or years.
Dieting of course we know is healthy, but to achieve a healthy lifestyle one must be disciplined to the planned diet.
But if one time you suddenly eat too much that is beyond your diet, it is okay to fail and don’t blame yourself (well, you could blame yourself), because anytime you can start again.

I guess I don’t know what the “Ultra Lite” diet really is – but you might want review a few things here.
If an item is “diet” like the ginger ale or 7 up you are talking about, it usually means its not something we are supposed to have anyways. Diet sodas are full of aspartame, nutrasweet or other chemicals. Instead of this, what about soda water with a freshly squeezed lemon? Also, you can go to your natural food store or grocery store like Whole Foods and get some natural ginger ales that are real brewed ginger. They may not be zero calorie, but they retain the benefits and flavor of drinking a ginger drink rather than drinking syrup and chemicals. Ginger also gets your circulation going to. Sometimes zero calorie means zero nutrition, so remember that. If your body doesn’t get the nutrients it needs, you are going to retain the weight because your body thinks its starving and needs to conserve what is put into it.

i’m not aware with this also but i’ll try to search it some ideas in the net. thanks for sharing some tips

It’s so hard to diet – one thing I do that works is to change one thing at a time – for example, instead of giving up coffee, change the amount I drink and what I put in it. This way you don’t feel deprived and are more likely to sitck to it.
I love to eat I don’t diet but I stay slim, may be my metabolism is fast…
about 3 years ago
Oh, dear, I know what you’re going through and how hard it is. My advice is to start reading more about what is really healthy. Diet soda and juices aren’t the best for you. Try juicing instead – it is healthy and way more delicious than all those chemicals in the drinks you’re used to. Also, try to avoid processed food, such as rice cakes – that’s bad food masked as good food. Just read the label – chemicals again. That can’t be good for you. Instead, you can snack on raw unsalted nuts, carrots, fruit. Good luck in your fight with weight. I am with you, girl!
well am gona say its to hard to stop all those kind of foods and to stop all the other stuff like milk etc………….. thnx for posting
about 3 years ago
I agree with trendy, rice cakes really aren’t all that great, although they are CERTAINLY better than potato chips or something like that. Nuts are great for weight loss, if you could swap them in for the rice cakes you might have a winner here.
Good luck!

My doctor sells the Ultra Lite program and says the protein sachets help quell the hunger, but I can’t find out what ingredients are in them other than “amino acids.” Does anyone know? The website and brochure I was given have no information at all other than testimonials. I hate to spend $500 to find out exactly what this diet is. Good luck to all of you!

I think I’m going to give this a go, thanks for the post.

One thing that I would comment is that you can break the coffee habit altogether and that will help your body to stabilize. I also agree with what others have posted about making water your primary beverage. This will help you in many ways and will give you the alertness that you want to be able to accomplish a day’s work.

I have been on the Ultra Lite weight management plan for 3 months now. I have lost 31lbs and am loving every second of this program. It is a healthy, safe, effective “diet”. What it really is, is a new way of living!! I am very glad that I have done this program, and would recommend it to anyone. I am still in the weight loss phase…..another 20lbs or so to go! Good luck everybody!!

Hi all,
Been on the ultralite program (through a nutritionist) for just 1 week. i started at the disgusting weight of 300lbs even with normal hydration. Down 11lbs. so far (hydrated weight). Hungry the first two days, then very crabby for a day or so (normal I’m told). Have not violated any part of the program (except coffee – 3 cups) and have no discomfort at all after day 4. Today I picked up my second belt notch!
Packets – the packets are protein and enzymes mixed to reduce your between meal hunger pangs and they work. I use mine as coffee creamer and they do a great job.
I studied up on the subject of Ketosis and suddenly everything makes perfect sense. When you fool your body into thinking its starving, your liver will automatically begin to melt fat for energy. The part you don’t use is eliminated via urine. This is majic! You are peeing your waistline down the drain!
I had to become very angry at myself and totally disgusted with what I felt like before I had the ‘courage’ to do something (its easier not to do anything). When you get to that point, get to ultralite.
You do not have to give up caffeine, It actually speeds up your metabolism. Overall It looks like you will lose weight on this diet. The problem I see is you will gain the weight back if you fall back into old habits. I recommend a long term approach that is comfartable for you personally. You may not lose 10 lds per month, but a consistent reduction of 2-3lbs per month is achievable with minor changes to your lifestle. The best thing is this kind of weight loss will be forever!

About the coffee restrictions. I love my coffee like many others so I had to think of some sought of compromise here. I ended up settling for a skinny flat white (no sugar) skinny = skim milk. It’s great! If you like coffee, this is a delectable alternative to normal milk and sugar but it must always be expresso type coffee – not instant! One a day is cool.

optimism plays a big role in you diet.
so make sure before you indulge yourself to any diet, you have a different optimism to back you up. remember that you are not getting thin because you want people to love you, that won’t work and will only frustrate you more if it didn’t work. love yourself and enjoy being happy.
