Losing weight, one diet at a time; one month at a time…
Preteens – Dieting vs. Eating Healthy
This is a post written by a preteen who I’ll call Kathleen.
There are many pre-teens who would like to lose weight by dieting, but they only want to do that to become thinner and weigh less. But, what they should be doing is trying to eat healthy to become more healthy instead of trying to lose weight.
It is more important to be healthy than to lose weight because losing too much weight can be unhealthy and it can lead to death. If you are heallthy and eating the amount of right food to stay healthy, your body will be in better condition.
So, instead of not eating as much or going on an unhealthy diet, you should do some exercises or cut down a little.
Some exercises you could do would be to ride your bike, go swimming, go running, or other active things. You should at least get one hour of exercise each day.
Another way to become more healthy would be to cut down a little. Instead of eating until you’re full, eat until you’re not hungry. Also, don’t have as much junk food each day. Have it every once in a while, but not constantly.
So, these are reasons why and how to eat healthy.

there is no dieting vs. eating healthy. Eating healthy is part of dieting, that’s period. Every diet programs in this world would recommend you to eat healthy, eventually it’s up to you and your choices.

Dieting programs are all about eating healthy. All diets are based on healthy, balanced food such as vegetables…

I do disagree. eating healthy is eating healthy and should be a life style not a life change which is what a diet is. You are changing what you do. Eating healthy should not be thought of as a change into something else-this is how we are to live!!

Exercise was the first step for me then eating healthy just seemed to fall into place after a few months. With the both into action, the weight just dropped. I ENJOY exercising but eating healthy all the time is hard for me. When I don’t eat right, exercise helps balance my weight until I begin to eat right again. For my sister, eating right is enjoyable and exercising is a done as a health issue. She has no weight problem with her plan.

I agree that teens often get the concept wrong of eating healthy and dieting. personally i just think people should stay away from sugar filled foods and detox if it gets to that point. That’s how I keep healthy at least.

I totally disagree, I am on a diet right now actually and i am twelve years old. I was talking to my doctor just the other day and he was telling me by being healthy the weight will come off. I think the key thing is just to diet healthy. Like dont have eating disorders because that is what hurts the average child. Just diet but healthy in your diet.

Indeed , its better to change to more healthy food types than to go on deprivation
for the purpose of losing weight , this could be a very risky approach , your body deprived of food will go into survival mode and lower your metabolism which is not a good thing.

Drinking water can also help alot with weight loss. it helps hydrate and cleanse the system and the kidneys can’t function correctly without water. 8-10 glasses a day is good.

It’s always important to remember that eating healthy is a part of dieting. You should not only strive to lose the unwanted weight, but also to improve your overall health. Be sure that you plan your diet properly, and if possible, with the assistance of a physician.

I totally agree with the author. The health is more important than the shape for those teenages. The exercises is more important than the die plan!!!!!

Far better to stick to a nutritionaly sound and well balanced way of life. All things in moderation including exercise and you will lose weight and promote good health for yourself.

Eating a balance of healthy foods that contain carbohydrate, protein, and fat every day will help your blood glucose stay in balance and keep your weight where you want it to be.

This is a great article that deserves attention. Too many kids these days want to ‘diet’ and make their bodies look like celebrities. If we could educate teens more about nutrition and how our bodies work, I think it would do a lot of good!
I talk about a lot of the same type of stuff at my ‘how to get a six pack fast‘ blog. The only good way to burn fat and get thinner is to eat healthy (not necessarily restrictively) and exercise regularly.
