Shameless plug for my art…

I’ve become so frustrated with my obsession with food and weight, that even Crabby McSlacker at Cranky Fitness agreed that I should move on to more productive obsessions – so, I decided that I should paint (again). I did actually start a new painting, that’s coming along quite nicely overall, but is currently going through an “ugly” stage – as most of my paintings do. But, being a capitalist by nature; inspired by Paula – Queen of the Surf Pirates and Sammy Stuff; and encouraged by Emperor Anton – Pixelhead – I felt emboldened to open a Fat Lady Art Shop at Cafe Press. Very cool site, by the way.

I created T-shirts, cards and an assortment of unnecessary items that tend to clutter a house – all displaying a variety of my paintings that I have in digital format. If your house is going to be cluttered up – as mine usually is – why not at least have some art on the clutter.

Now, when Christmas rolls around – I can get teacher gifts with Fat Lady Art!

Sticking to a Diet is Difficult on Weekends

Dieting… I still think of this as dieting and I’m not sure how to get out of that frame of mind. But, as I started this post, I was going to talk about how weekends and eating well are difficult for me. My schedule is different; unexpected things tend to happen; food is never prepared; etc. Generally, I don’t go to the gym on the weekends either.

My breakfast wasn’t too bad. We always go out for breakfast on Saturday mornings and I should be able to plan for this. Today I had one egg, 1 slice of cheese and 2 pieces of whole wheat toast. After breakfast I took my son out to shop for clothes for going back to school. He slept through breakfast so I took him out to lunch before we got to the mall (one of my least favorite places on earth). We went to Applebee’s. They have a “Weight Watchers” menu – but nothing on that menu looked appealing.  I got the Bruschetta Burger and fries. “This 100% Angus burger is juicy, robust—and like no other. It’s crowned with a zesty pesto sauce and fresh bruschetta mix, and set on thick wedges of mozzarella. Served between grilled foccacia bread for a delicious crunch. Crispy garlic fries sprinkled with shaved Parmesan complete this classic.” -  it was excellent!!

The book I had started several weeks ago – “Faithfully Fit” – I never really got going with that. My friend and I decided that we really needed to wait until our kids were back in school to have the time to devote to this study. My kids go back the Tuesday after Labor day – I think her kids start this coming week.

I’m frustrated with all of this. It’s overwhelming – all of the time. I would love to know the freedom of not obsessing over food. I don’t know that it’s possible for me.

I’m rambling. I should paint.

Preteens – Dieting vs. Eating Healthy

This is a post written by a preteen who I’ll call Kathleen.

There are many pre-teens who would like to lose weight by dieting, but they only want to do that to become thinner and weigh less. But, what they should be doing is trying to eat healthy to become more healthy instead of trying to lose weight.

It is more important to be healthy than to lose weight because losing too much weight can be unhealthy and it can lead to death. If you are heallthy and eating the amount of right food to stay healthy, your body will be in better condition.

So, instead of not eating as much or going on an unhealthy diet, you should do some exercises or cut down a little.

Some exercises you could do would be to ride your bike, go swimming, go running, or other active things. You should at least get one hour of exercise each day.
Another way to become more healthy would be to cut down a little. Instead of eating until you’re full, eat until you’re not hungry. Also, don’t have as much junk food each day. Have it every once in a while, but not constantly.

So, these are reasons why and how to eat healthy.

Motivated to Lose Weight (again)

John from Total Transformation Test, who encourages me to eat more fruits and veggies, left me a wonderful comment yesterday about making a diet plan that will reduce the chance of making bad choices. I thought if this is possible – then I’ve got to give it a go. I read his post – Complete Blockhead’s Guide to Eating, or, The Simplest Diet EVER! – and it’s so simple and is right in line with how I’d prefer to eat. Too many choices and too little planning always gets me in trouble with food. So, yea! to John and here’s what I’ve got lined up for this week’s choices:

Breakfast choices – Bran Chex, Khashi, or low-fat yogurt
Lunch choices – any JC lunches that remain (I’m finally getting near the end of the Jenny food!), tuna salad with low-fat mayo on 2 rice cakes, or natural peanut butter and sugar free jelly on 100% whole wheat bread
Dinner choices – meatball rice cake pizzas (my own creation) & salad w/low fat dressing, grilled chicken breast with veggies & potatoes
Snack choices – unlimited fruits & veggies, mozzarella cheese, JC snacks (all are between 100 – 130 calories)

That should get me through this week.

Daily Commitment to Lose Weight

It is a daily battle to try and make good food choices and eat what I know is best for me. The benefit to making good choices is weight loss. I wrote on The Incredible Shrinking Ladies about my new commitment to make a lifestyle change. It’s one thing to have abundant knowledge about diet and nutrition – it’s another to put it in to action. So, here I go again. If I have to commit hourly to living a healthful life – I will do so.

I added exercise back into my daily routine this morning. Last week we were up on a “working vacation” in Maine, so we didn’t get to exercise. We had been going to the YMCA every morning for just 20 minutes. I know that isn’t much time – but being committed to doing it every day – that short time has made it doable. We plan to increase the time soon. For me – just getting to the gym is the biggest hurdle to overcome.

Today’s Menu -
Breakfast – 1 cup Bran Chex – 200
1oz String Cheese – 80
Lunch – JC Potstickers & Salad – 300
Snack – apple!! – 80
Dinner – Meatloaf, potatoes & assorted veggies – 360
Snack – Chocolate Chip Snack Bar – 110

Back from Maine and Back to Losing Weight

Once again, I find myself at my “start weight”. I suppose that I should be happy that I did not gain any additional weight. But, I should know by now that a vacation does not mean a vacation from healthful eating – especially since we do tend to travel quite a bit.

We went to Maine last week as the Emperor wrote on my travel blog. Maine was fabulous and beautiful. We ate an abundance of seafood, which can be very low in calories and a healthful choice when prepared that way. Not when it’s deep fried and in a really delicious cream sauce.

Now it’s a new week; a new commitment to make good and healthful food choices; and a good attitude about losing weight and getting healthy – again. Today’s meals will include:

Breakfast – 1 cup Bran Chex @ 200 calories
Snack – String Cheese @ 80 calories
Lunch – JC Fish & Chips @ 250 calories
Snack – 1 cup grapes @ 60 calories
Dinner – Baked Ziti w/cranberry orange chicken sausage & veggies @ ? calories
Snack – Chocolate Chip snack bar @ 110 calories

That’s it for day one of my new commitment to lose weight.

* I’m buried under an excess of work, so I plan to get back to the gym tomorrow.

Trying on Clothes is a Humbling Experience

I’m down about 8 pounds – still, since I started the most recent weight loss endeavor. I went shopping at the outlets in Freeport, Maine (home of my favorite LL Bean) and had to try on clothes because I knew that I was not going to be back to return items that did not properly fit. What a humbling experience. I’m up 2-3 sizes since I lost all the weight 4 years ago. This is not a good feeling – BUT it did strengthen my commitment to take off the 20 – 30 pounds that I gained over the years.
